Arte di Tomoko

PRESS RELEASE – 10 october 2012 Latina – The accuracy of the sign. “A spiritual and intellectual journey apparently held together by boundary lines that have a sharp taste ” (from a text by Francesca Piovan). Tomoko Fait is sitting next to me with a demeanour of blissful composure. I ask her something too fast in Italian, she does not understand me, we laugh and by laughing Tomoko shatters the apparent infrangibility of the distance that separates our so very different beings. Her smile is the key to unlocking these ink labyrinths, to reaching her primordial artistic conception, to disentangling the thick texture of signs. Seeing her face lit up by her smile, I manage to understand what lies beneath her dreamlike compositions. Beneath the mathematical rigour at the base of the implacable yet unreal like logic that creates the extraordinary beauty of her figures, beneath the modular assuredness of her hand, beneath the austerity of every single dot, beneath the segmented tangle of fullness and emptiness: beneath all this we get close, the eyes observe and rapidly and without pause, they immediately look for the start and the end, the beginning and a goal. Only after visually being immersed in a mythology-like maze, can we see the fairy tale. Against the backdrop of a seductive silence, we walk through narrow streets, we meet fluctuating incorporeal figures, we enter mnemonic cathedrals, we come across a totem of ancient tradition, we feel the density of dark presences, we climb virtuous floral constellations of flowers, stepping over textures of laces, and we move with dancing figurines engaged in a childish Ring a Ring-o’Roses. We get lost in the art of Tomoko, and while lost we take every street as if it were a trail of the unknown, a spiritual and intellectual journey apparently held together by boundary lines that have a sharp flavour; to find then ourselves in a perfect circular motion, among many mutations, and many variations. We arrive at destination, which is conceived as a large point, homogeneous and perfect. We arrive at the value of time, which is spent living the fairy tale, intended as a succession of unrepeatable moments. We return to reality as the keepers of the value of a dreamlike journey.
